Book launch

I got an email from Shabana today. When I spoke to her on phone yesterday she was inquiring about every details of the 31st January book launch which she had missed due to her pre-occupations in Mumbai. I also spoke to Kiron Kher. It was very nice of her to come for the book launch functions. I made great new friends from different Asian countries during the two-day book launch functions. Organising events is my passion and when these events are for a social cause it gives all the more satisfaction and joy.
I personally feel that the launch of Speaking for Myself: An Anthology of Asian Women’s Writing would go a long way to provide a springboard for many talented Asian women writers who are already making their presence felt.
The Asian women writers got an opportunity to interact with not only other writers but also many other talented persons from different walks of life during the lunch hosted by me. Some of them are great achievers in their own fields like Javed Akhtar, Pandit Jasraj or Mamata Shankar. I thank everybody, especially my office colleagues, who made the two-day book launch an unforgettable event.

It was the most unforgettable literary gathering in Kolkata, organized by the wonderful Prabha Khaitan Foundation, under the supervision of Mr. Sundeep Bhutoria, the trustee to the PKF, and the tireless efforts by wonderful Ms. Ibada Sohtun to arrange and coordinate our trips to India. There are no words to express my heartfelt gratitude and thanks to the gracious hospitality by Mr. and Mrs. Bhutoria during our stay in Kolkata. How could I forget the wonderful, intelligent, and gracious Mrs. Bhutoria and her kind and pleasant hospitality?
I will never forget this literary experience and the wonderful individuals I met in Kolkata, whom I marveled, listened to, and learned from. How could I not remember amazing Dr. Kapita Vatsyayan, Dr. Sukrita Paul Kumar, Dr. Malashri Lal, Dr. Nabaneeta Dev Sen, Dr. Kavita Sharma, Sr. Mrinal Sen, and the fellow writers Dr. Agnes Lam, Kishwar Naheed, Kunzang Choden, Manju Tiwari, and Putsata Raeng—each and every one amazing in their own ways.
Thankful to my kind and historically informed guide Mr. Amitava Mokherjee, and Mr. Ravi Chetri the best driver, during the tour of Kolkata, I visited Mother Theresa’s place, and the National Library where I was impressed by the wonderful librarians (Mr. Roy, Mr. Maity, and Mr. Ghosh).
One of the highlights of our visit in Kolkata was when Mr. Bhutoria accompanied us to visit with the poet, Mr. Shri Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee (Chief Minister of West Bengal), where very pleasant intellectual conversations took place, -- talks about life, poetry and books…This memory shall not fade from my mind. (Photo attached).
The wisdom and knowledge of Dr. Kapila Vatsyayan and the hard work and persistence of the editors, Dr. Sukrita Paul Kumar and Prof. Malashri Lal, who achieved completion of such a “not easy” task, will be remembered as an important chapter in the book of “Humanity Gather Together”. Launching Speaking for Myself by the wise generosity of Probha Khaitan Foundation was a noble act in the world of literature, a brave step to help all women hear each others voices and feel the connection, as each walk and struggle on their individual unpaved or paved paths.
