Documentary on Amartya Sen
January 5, 2012: On the evening of January 2nd I invited a few friends for dinner including Dr Suman Ghosh who recently produced and directed a documentary on Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen.

That day, Just before dinner, I was at the Gyan Manch to see Dr Ghosh's documentary - Amartya Sen: A Life Re-examined (picture).
The screening was followed by an interesting panel discussion in which Dr Sugata Basu participated and moderated by Suman.
Suman recalled an interesting anecdote told by Kaushik Basu, Economic Advisor, President of India. Mr Basu had told him that once he saw Dr Amartya Sen give his surname to a foreigner over phone and as the line was not clear Dr Amartya Sen spelt his surname out as S for somebody, E for everybody and N for nobody.
I haven't met Dr Amartya Sen yet. My last appointment with him in New York failed to mature due to a date problem.
After the screening at Gyan Manch, Bickram and Jaya Ghosh, Arindam and Shukla Sil, Kaushik Sen, Arpita, Gargi Roy Chowdhury and Suman came straight to my home and had a good adda session over dinner.
Since the last three days, myself and my office, were fully pre-occupied with the preparations for the journalists' delegation from our city to Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (from Jan 7 to 9) in Jaipur. Rajasthan Foundation Kolkata Chapter is arranging for the trip.
Tomorrow evening shall fly to Delhi.
