Auction for a cause
With Abir, Locket and Mir |
July
3, 2015: I just came back from Hotel
Hyatt Regency where there was a fund
raising event for the Nepal quake victims organized by
Oxfam, Hyatt
and sponsored by other organizations.
Last
month only I had organized a similar kind of paintings
exhibition-cum-sale at the same venue for the same cause.
Oxfam
India, the Indian wing of the International organization Oxfam,
which operates poverty alleviation programs in over 94 countries,
pledged matching contribution for funds raised through the auctions
to encourage higher bidding.

I
participated in the auction at the
exhibition-cum-sale of photographs of Nepal, and
along with some other colleagues of mine from The
Bengal, we bought a photograph
as well. Quite of number of eminent Kolkatans and
members of the foreign consulates attended the event.
It
was a gala affair but somehow, I personally did not
like the concept where you spend more money in terms of cash or kind
and raise far less for donation. It is a
matter of individual choice and doing events for a good cause is
always welcome.
With Locket and Britta Leicke Milde, GM, Hyatt Regency Kolkata |
My
thanks and appreciation to mother-daughter duo of Nisha
and Anaina Malik who took the photographs exhibited at the event. I
thank Britta and the Hyatt
team that came forward to support this initiative.
